The Nordonia Hills Branch Library will temporarily close beginning after Saturday, August 1, as the Akron-Summit County Public Library begins a major renovation project as part of its Building Our Future initiative.
The renovation will include important building repairs and exciting new improvements, such as:
- Private study rooms
- Updated spaces for children and teens
- Roof repairs and other essential building upgrades
As the building’s last major renovation was completed in 1999, these improvements are necessary to ensure the library continues serving the community for years to come. The project is expected to require the branch to be closed for up to 12 months.
Join the Community Farewell & Town Hall on August 1
Before construction begins, the library invites the community to a special “See You Later!” Summer Finale and Building Our Future Town Hall on Saturday, August 1.
The afternoon will include:
- 1:00 PM – Building Our Future Town Hall, where visitors can meet Library administration, learn about the renovation project, explore naming opportunities, and preview the redesigned branch.
- 1:30 PM – 4:00 PM – Family-friendly activities including face painting, balloon art, carnival games, karaoke for teens and adults, and food provided by the Friends of the Library.
Residents are encouraged to stop by, ask questions, and celebrate the beginning of this exciting new chapter for the Nordonia Hills Branch.
Library Services During Construction
Although the building will be closed, library services will continue throughout the renovation.
A Book Trailer will be available in the Nordonia Hills Branch parking lot for browsing, checking out materials, picking up holds, and returning items:
- Every Tuesday: 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM
- Third Saturday of each month: 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
The outdoor book drop will remain open throughout construction, and library staff will continue offering programs and services at locations throughout the community. Information about off-site events for all ages will be posted on the Akron-Summit County Public Library’s Events page.
The temporary closure may be an inconvenience, but these improvements will create a more modern, functional, and welcoming library for everyone when it reopens.
