Residents of Northfield Center Township have an opportunity to make their lawn care routines more environmentally friendly this spring. The Akron Regional Air Quality Management District (ARAQMD), a service of Summit County Public Health, has announced the return of its popular MowGREENER program for the seventh year.
This initiative encourages residents in Summit, Medina, and Portage counties to switch from gas-powered lawn equipment to cleaner, electric or battery-powered alternatives. Traditional gas-powered mowers and tools are a significant source of air pollution. In fact, studies have shown that using a gasoline lawn mower for just one hour can produce emissions comparable to driving a car for hundreds of miles. Electric equipment, by contrast, produces zero emissions during use, helping improve air quality for both users and their neighbors.
Eligible participants can receive the following rebates after registering and being approved:
- $150 Visa® gift card for purchasing a new electric or battery-powered mower and scrapping an old gas mower
- $50 Visa® gift card for purchasing a new electric or battery-powered mower without scrapping an old one (ideal for first-time homeowners)
- $25 Visa® gift card for purchasing electric lawn care accessories such as string trimmers, hedge trimmers, or leaf blowers (limit of four rebates, up to $100 total)
The MowGREENER program is open to residents only (not commercial lawn care providers), and participation is limited. A waiting list will be created if demand exceeds available funding.
Registration opens April 1, 2026. Residents can find full program details, deadlines, and the online registration form by visiting: scph.link/MowGREENER.
For those who prefer to register by phone or have questions about the program, please contact program staff at 330-926-5600 or email [email protected].
Northfield Center Township encourages residents to take advantage of this program as a simple step toward reducing emissions and promoting cleaner air in our community.
