At a recent meeting, the Northfield Center Township Board of Trustees passed a resolution authorizing the Township to enter into a 1 year agreement with Cresco Real Estate. The purpose of this agreement is to explore the possibility of leasing the old Town Hall building (9546 Brandywine Road), not selling it.
The Trustees want residents to be very clear about their intent. There is no interest in selling the Town Hall property. The building remains an important Township asset, and ownership will stay with Northfield Center Township. The resolution simply allows the Township to evaluate potential leasing opportunities that could help bring new life to the historic structure while preserving it for future generations.
Why Explore Leasing?
The old Town Hall has long been a recognizable part of the Township’s identity, but like many older public buildings, it requires updates and ongoing maintenance. By exploring leasing options, the Trustees aim to:
- Identify responsible, compatible uses for the building
- Support necessary updates, repairs, and modernization
- Reduce the financial burden on Township taxpayers
- Keep the building active, maintained, and contributing to the community
Partnering with Cresco Real Estate allows the Township to benefit from professional expertise in evaluating market interest, potential tenants, and feasible improvement plans.
A Focus on Preservation and Improvement
The Northfield Center Township Board of Trustees is committed to protecting Township property while being fiscally responsible. Any future lease arrangement would be carefully reviewed to ensure it aligns with community values, zoning requirements, and the long-term interests of the Township.
This resolution does not finalize any lease, nor does it approve any specific project. Instead, it opens the door to thoughtful discussion, analysis, and public transparency as options are explored.
Looking Ahead
As the process moves forward, the Trustees will continue to keep residents informed and involved. Community input will remain an important part of evaluating whether leasing the old Town Hall is the right step and how improvements can best serve the Township. The goal is to explore smart, sustainable ways to update, fix, and preserve the building while ensuring it continues to serve the community for years to come.
