Here’s a summary of what’s happening this fall in Northfield Center Township:
Leaf Collection Program Begins October 20
Director of Services Tim Black reminded residents that the annual leaf pickup program begins Monday, October 20 and runs through December 1, 2025. Crews will make several rounds throughout the township during that time, working six days a week—Monday through Saturday—to collect leaves.
A few key reminders to help the process run smoothly:
- Rake leaves into 3–4 foot piles close to the road, but not in ditches or streets.
Leaves in ditches can clog catch basins and cause flooding. - Do not include sticks, rocks, branches, gravel, or wood—only leaves.
- Avoid parking vehicles in front of your leaf piles so crews can access them.
- Be cautious and patient when driving near collection crews.
Trucks and chase vehicles will be working along township roads, and safety is the top priority.
If you miss the township pickup, Kimble will take leaves in the garbage. You can bag them up, or you can put them out to the curb.
Trash & Recycling Contract Renewal
Trustee Gene Lim announced that Northfield Center Township has renewed its waste and recycling contract with Kimble Companies.
- The new contract runs from December 1, 2025 through November 30, 2030.
- The base rate will be $80.34, with a 3% annual increase.
- The senior citizen rate will be $16.51, also increasing 3% each year.
If residents experience any issues with service, they can contact Kimble directly (800-201-0005) or reach out to the Township Office for assistance (330-467-7646).
Vote November 4 – Issue 48 (Tax Levy Renewal)
Trustee Lim also reminded residents about Issue 48, which will appear on the November 4, 2025 ballot. This is a renewal of an existing operating levy—not a new tax—that funds essential township services.
Levy Details:
- Renewal of a 1.4 mill operating levy for five years (2025–2030)
- Generates approximately $224,000 annually
- Costs homeowners about $28 per $100,000 of property value
- Helps fund 50% of township road and service department projects
Revenue from this levy supports the day-to-day operations of the township, including road repairs, ditch maintenance, and the leaf collection program.
