Notice from Macedonia on Fire Hydrant Replacement

The City of Cleveland’s Division of Water has evaluated each fire hydrant in the Macedonia Fire Response District (Macedonia, Northfield Center, Sagamore Hills) and determined that a significant number of the hydrants need to be replaced. An outside contractor will be hired to perform the work over a period of several months.

Because hydrants are located in the utility right-of-way, residents will not receive notice prior to the start of replacement work; however, you may notice small flags, caution tape, and/or fluorescent paint marking the hydrants.

Once hydrants are replaced, grass will be restored around them. If you have landscaped around a hydrant on your property, you may want to preserve your plants by moving them to a safe area. Please be assured that if a fire hydrant near your home is out of service, it will not impede the fire department’s ability to effectively fight a fire, as trucks carry ample fire hose to manage such situations.
